Are YOU Addicted?

April 29, 2016

The world is addicted to a new drug. This drug is powerful and has the potential to totally consume you.

This drug is called social media, and you have not even begun to notice your addiction and its effects.

Social media is a portal to an entirely different world – a world where infinite power is in your hands and infinite knowledge at your fingertips. Everything is fast and convenient. You can shape how you are viewed and control everything that you say, but the truth is, the world is hiding behind a screen.

Yes, social media and the internet proves to have its perks. However, is it reasonable for one individual to possess such power? It drives how we communicate, interact, and even how we think. This power also has the potential to be addictive. Everywhere you look someone is glued to their screen, and while they can’t peel their eyes away from whatever is captivating their attention, time is moving on without them.

We are constantly told how short life is. You are given this small window of time that is your life. You are expected to fit everything that you want to accomplish into this tiny window, and the thing is, you don’t know exactly how small your window will be. You could have an abundance or a shortage of time. You just don’t know. This should leave us wanting to fill our lives with what matters the most.

It’s not that we should drop the ball on social media altogether; however, social media should be used in moderation, just like everything else. An excess of anything can be detrimental. Social media can be a thief of time, and why would you let something that holds little to no real importance take away your precious time?

Make an effort to put your devices away. Attempt to spend time with the people that you love and cherish. Make real, human connections. Time is so precious. Don’t let it slip out of your grasp by wasting it on things that don’t really matter. Live in the moment.
