Senioritis

April 27, 2016

Nearing the end of thirteen years of being at school, students get to the point when it seems like it is not necessary to study anymore. “What for?” students think. We’ve been working on our diplomas for most of our lifetime. Isn’t it time to relax and have a little bit of fun at school?” If you read it and you think “Pshhh, I am not like this”, you are not a senior.

A phenomenon of senioritis is not something new anymore. For more than 40 years teachers from colleges and high schools around the United States and Canada admit that by the end of the each year, student’s motivation toward studies decreases rapidly. Some students allow their grades to drop so low that by the end they can’t even make it to graduation; they have to spend another year getting a diploma. Isn’t it illogical to work for such a long time and then ruin it it one year? It seems like it, but a lot of seniors agree that it is just not under their control. “It is hard to find the motivation to always put in maximum effort. I am ready to move forward and find out what is waiting for me after high school,” said senior Emily Krulik.

Ever since we were kids, parents have always been teaching us that we need to follow the example of older ones. Time goes by, kids grow up, but this life lesson mostly stays with us. Seniors can easily have a class with sophomores or freshmen, so after spending a long time around seniors inflicted with senioritis, younger classes seem to get infected, too.

You are not graduating yet. Stop it.

This year is coming to an end, and students have a crazy whirlwind of events every day. This does not even include the emotional aspect. We all understand that standing in front of the graduation line is not that easy as it seems, but seniors, seriously, don’t give up earlier; study well and get a diploma to be proud of!
