Creepypasta

February 16, 2017

Do you ever find yourself lying in bed staring at the ceiling, not knowing what you’re doing with your life? Well, much of the buzzing internet life can relate to you. They solve their boredom problems by resorting to the internet. One popular way the teenage internet population rids themselves of boredom is through a website called CreepyPasta.

No, the name isn’t to be taken literally. It’s not a website full of creepy looking pasta, but rather, CreepyPasta is essentially a website of horror stories written from all around the world, and shared over and over again. Actually “CreepyPasta” comes from “copypasta”, which is an internet slang term for a block of text that gets copied and pasted over and over again on different websites. The majority of the stories are based on fictional characters with a distinctly horrific genere base.

The most known CreepyPasta story is “Slender Man.” In this story, it is said that a tall man with no face will hide in the forest, or dark areas until he finds his victim of choice. When he does, he will follow them home and then wait until the victim gets a glimpse of him. When the victim sees him, he will hide in their house and wait until they sleep. When his target wakes up, he will be standing over them and will ask a question. If they answer correctly he will only break their legs and arms, but if they reply incorrectly, then he will stick his tentacle like arms down their throat and rip their heart out slowly. As gory as the story is, it’s based off the german version called “Der Grossmann”, which when translated to English just means ‘tall man.’

Another well known “CreepyPasta” is the “Russian Sleep Experiment.” The Russians kept five people awake for 15 days with an experimental gas. Everything was fine for the first five days, then they began to have extreme paranoia. After nine days, one screamed until he tore his vocal cords, and the other participants whispered into the microphones, not reacting to the man screaming. Later, they all went silent and covered the microphones with fecal matter and tore out the cameras. After a few days of being unaware of what was happening, the researchers decided to go in. There they found the participants had mutilated each other upon other disturbing actions. The story is not anywhere near based on real facts, but rather it is just a tall tale that someone came up with in 2005.

As Creepypasta becomes more and more popular, it should be noted that you need to do your own research to make sure if it is based off a real situation. It’s a good pass time if you’re ever bored and have nothing to do, but keep in mind that it isn’t a website for the weak stomached. It contains all the creeps, gores, and scares any heart could desire.
