Surviving and Thriving

March 13, 2017

The IMC has been a beloved part of Martinsville High School for as long as students can remember. In the mornings, many go there to start their day with their peers or hurriedly rush in during lunch for a few extra minutes of studying. The IMC has served both as a sanctuary and as a quiet study place for many. So the question begs how is the IMC going to change over the next few years?

With the introduction of Chromebooks this year, you may think the use of the IMC is dwindling, but that is not the case. Teachers, particularly English teachers, use the IMC religiously when it comes to research papers. The demand for printed material has yet to go out of style and is still a necessity for many students. Between the endless amount of books and articles to print off, the usefulness of these materials can not be denied.

Even if one does not use the computers and chooses to stay on their chromebooks, they will still be using the IMC’s wifi to conduct their research.

Few may know that there is a room located in the IMC that has a green screen. They plan on opening up that space in the near future to students who need to make a video project. “The IMC is not dying, it is evolving” said Nancy Habble. The IMC has been changing for years and it will continue to evolve as long as Martinsville High School continues to stand.
