Leg Hair 500
“FTK! FTK! FTK! FTK!”
For the past three years Martinsville High School students have been chanting FTK (For The Kids), and will be for many years to come. Students who are involved in Dance Marathon fundraise year round for Riley Children’s Hospital and end the year with a six hour dance in support for children who are fighting for their lives everyday. Millions of children are checked into Riley Children’s Hospitals from across the nation every year, and MHS students volunteer to help donate money for those children.
This year, senior Madelyn Guinn is having her own fundraiser, one that she calls the “Leg Hair 500.” If Guinn raises $500 for Dance Marathon, she will shave her legs.
“I first stopped shaving my legs in June,” said Guinn. “I would just have a little bit of leg hair and people would just get so mad about it, and I was like why would you get mad about my leg hair, and they would say it is just so gross; girls should have to shave it,” Guinn said.
So, Guinn decided that she would shave them for a good cause. In the first two weeks of the Leg Hair 500, Guinn raised $200. She wants to help children get the help they need at Riley Hospitals and have a better education and equipment for treatment at the hospitals.
