The KETO Diet

February 8, 2018

Trendy diets fade in and out several times a year, but there is one diet that seems to be sticking around for good. The KETO diet, otherwise known as the ketogenic diet, is a no carb, no sugar, high fat diet. This diet supposedly transforms your body, making it adjust to burning off fat for energy, rather than utilizing carbs for energy. The fat you take in also turns into ketones, which are found in the liver and supply energy for the brain. This metabolic state your body goes into is called ketosis (hence the name of the diet).

Many studies have provided proof that this diet not only helps people lose weight, but it also improves their health. Suspected health benefits from the diet are improving conditions of diabetes, cancer, epilepsy, and Alzheimer’s. Although this used to be a diet typically only popular for training athletes or body-builders, it has expanded itself and made a huge impact in many people’s lives.

Name brands are even adjusting to this new diet, such as the company It Works selling KETO coffee. “It isn’t really a diet. It’s more of a life style. It isn’t that big of a challenge. You just have to adjust to cooking at home versus eating out. Once you figure out things to cook, it is extremely enjoyable,” a source shared.

From Facebook pages full of KETO dieters sharing experiences with the diet or recipes they have whipped up, to doctors recommending this to patients who want to drop some pounds, the ketogenic diet is definitely something to talk about.
