What’s Up With the Kardashians

March 2, 2018

Chances are, unless you don’t have access to television, a cell phone, or any source of media, you have at least an idea of who the Kardashians are. Whether it be because you use a product on Kylie’s makeup line, were interested in the Caitlyn Jenner gender transformation, or you just love the family drama, you have most likely encountered something that has to do with the Kardashians. Why is it, though, that these people are so famous?

Well, their popularity blew up after their show, Keeping Up With the Kardashians aired, and since then, their fame has increased beyond measure. Most people either love them or hate them and there’s not much of an inbetween. If you ask the first person you see if they like the Kardashians and they say yes, most of their time their reasoning is along the lines of “they’re funny.” Sophomore Lauren Jones agrees with this. “I like them because they’re ridiculous and I like hearing all the dumb stuff they say,” Jones said.

Others like the Kardashians for different reasons. Some like to have a glimpse into the lives of people who have more money and fame than themselves. You get to see what life is like when you can eat whatever you want and change any part of your body if you want to.  “I like them because it shows another side of people and how money really affects lives,” said sophomore Emily Sublette.

Other people say they like them for deeper, more in depth reasons. “They go through things and they’re actually pretty relatable and they aren’t as bad and selfish as everyone makes them out to be,” said sophomore Breeann Webster. Webster says she prefers to see them more as normal people and focus on the good things they do, like donating to charities. “They’re people just like we are,” she said.

The Kardashians and Jenners are one of the most popular families in Hollywood. Fans of Kardashians range greatly, as do their particular reason for interest. Regardless, millions of people are drawn into the drama that surrounds the family.
