Going Green is Going Better?

Solar power is not a new subject to the masses. Solar power or renewable energy is energy used to power everyday appliances, businesses, cars, and more that is made from solar panels, windmill farms, tidal power, hydropower, and other renewable sources like biofuel. Solar panels convert energy from the sun and turn it into electricity. Windmills create power from the wind that many cities including Brookston, Chalmers and counties including White and Jasper in Indiana, use to power parts of their towns.

Tidal power is a type of hydropower that comes from the coast in places like Canada and South Korea, that takes energy from tides and converts it into electricity. Biofuel is fuel for vehicles made from contemporary biological processes, most commonly known as ethanol and biodiesel.

Many people do not use renewable energy because it is seen as costly and doesn’t create as much power as regular power plants. Some say, “If it’s cloudy, how am I supposed to turn my lights on?” Sayings like this circulate and give renewable energy a bad name. However, what many don’t know is that solar power is one of the most efficient types of clean energy. Storing energy all day from the sun which can go well into the night help cut down on electricity bills and waste.

President Trump says that there is “a war on coal.” Mining jobs have dropped from 800,000 in the 1920s to 76,000 present day. However, it isn’t a war that caused that, it’s just less consumption of coal in America. More Americans are switching over to clean energy because it is more cost efficient and is safer for the Earth. Later on, he claimed to end the war on “clean coal.”

Trump seems to not fully understand the meaning of “clean coal.” He used it in terms with coal that has been pretreated, while true clean coal is coal that has been stripped of chemicals to create CO2 or more commonly known as carbon dioxide. While Trump boasts about ending the war, he also talked about cutting the funding for the U.S. Department of Energy from $200 million to only $35 million. Overall, many people are unaware or misinformed of what is happening around them, but helping out the earth in ways like clean energy can spark a change.
