How to Deal with Stress and Anxiety

August 27, 2019

Anxiety and stress are things that every high schooler comes to face at least once in their high school career. There are many ways that one can cope with these feelings, some of which include:

  • Let your mind take breaks

Allowing yourself to take time to relax after the school day is very important. There should be at least one hour between school/sports and your homework so you can clear your mind. If your brain becomes too cluttered, then you are more likely to get stressed sooner while doing your work.

  • Find a support group

There are many different online support groups to help students and adults; Martinsville High School is also starting an anxiety and stress relief group. Students can email Mrs. Presley to sign up and for more information. Joining one of these groups can be very beneficial to your mental health since it is a place where you can completely let go of your stress.

  • Keep Your Focus

When doing homework, make sure that you focus on one subject at a time. If you clutter your mind with trying to study for multiple subjects at once, you tend to get stressed faster.

  • Don’t Make School Your Main Focus

While school is important, it should not be the only thing on your mind twenty-four seven. Students need time to be able to hang out with friends and participate in other activities!

  • Let Yourself Have Fun!!

You may get stressed a lot during school, but you can’t let yourself spend all your time worrying. Go out and live your life, because high school is one of your final chances of freedom before adulthood. Don’t let yourself get too caught up in stress.

There are many other ways that you can relieve stress and anxiety. That being said, don’t let yourself get too carried away. You will always succeed by doing the best you can and being the best person you can possibly be.
