Indiana Covid-19 Vaccine Distribution

January 21, 2021

Indiana is rolling out the new Covid-19 vaccine by age group beginning with people 80 and older. People 70 and older will be next, followed by people 60 and older. The three age groups combined make up 22.5% of Indiana’s population, 64.1% of COVID-19 hospitalizations, and 93.3% of COVID-19 deaths.

Anyone 80 and older may make an appointment to receive the vaccine; this started at 9 A.M. on Friday, January 8th. On Wednesday, January 5th, Gov. Eric Holcomb said the state may move through those first three age groups in “a matter of weeks,” depending on how much interest there is. The state’s chief medical officer, Lindsey Weaver, said the state may not be able to expand eligibility until February if there is a lot of interest from those first three groups.

To check eligibility or schedule an appointment, visit ourshot.in.gov or call 211 from 8 A.M.-8 P.M- that number will connect you to a representative who can make you an appointment. Family members may call to make an appointment on behalf of seniors.

When you make an appointment to get vaccinated on ourshot.in.gov, it will ask you to put in your ZIP code so you can find vaccination clinics near you. At least one vaccination clinic will be available in every county, the state health department said. In all, there will be 148 clinics statewide: 55 at hospitals, 91 at local health departments, and two at pharmaceutical locations in Newton and Posey counties.

Both of the COVID-19 vaccines approved by the federal government require two doses. You will make an appointment to receive a second dose while at the clinic to receive the first dose. The vaccine is free to any Indiana resident, and the only thing needed for the appointment is a photo ID.
