The College Football Playoffs

The College Football Playoffs
The race to the college football playoffs is now officially over. The four selected teams, Alabama, Michigan, Georgia, and Cincinnati, all begin their run for glory.
Arguably the most surprising team to make this list is the Cincinnati Bearcats. With securing this playoff spot, Cincinnati becomes the first non-power conference team to secure a spot in the
College Football Playoffs. The Bearcats put together an undefeated season, going 13-0, and taking down a couple of notable teams in the process. These teams include Notre Dame and their most recent outing against Houston for the American Athletic Conference championship.
For Notre Dame, they just missed out of the playoffs, obtaining the number five seed, which ultimately all comes back to the heartbreaking loss versus Cincinnati. Notre Dame would have more than likely secured a spot in the playoffs if they would have taken the win against Cincinnati, and mounted an undefeated season of their own.
Alabama’s appearance is no shock to many, even those who have paid only just a little bit of attention to college football in recent years. They were holders of the number 1 seed until game 6, when they were beaten in a shocking, nail-biting 41-38 loss to Texas A&M. After this, Georgia claimed the number 1 seed until the most recent game where they met Alabama for the SEC championship. Alabama asserted their dominance, taking down the Bulldogs 41-24, and reclaiming their title as, “Best Team in the Nation”.
The Georgia Bulldogs have been one of those top competitors for a while just like Alabama, but they have not reached the coveted glory of National Champs since 1980. Georgia was looking to hold the number 1 seed and go into the College Football Playoffs facing Cincinnati, however, Alabama had other plans for them.
The Michigan Wolverines would not be denied a playoff spot. There were lots of questions surrounding whether or not they would secure one of the four spots into the playoffs. Michigan did not disappoint in their later stretch of the season. Three of their last four games were against Ohio State, Iowa, and Penn State all of which Michigan came out victorious. The most recent game versus Iowa for the Big Ten championship, was complete and total domination. Michigan took home the title of the Big Ten champs in a 42-3 win and looks to add National Champs to their resume.
The race for glory begins, as each of the four teams looks to solidify their school in history and become National champions.
