NFL Star Athlete Alvin Kamara Arrested

February 22, 2022

On Saturday, February 5, NFL superstar Alvin Kamara was arrested for alleged battery in Las Vegas, Nevada. It was all supposed to be a fun night before the Pro Bowl, so what went down?

Kamara is a twenty-six year old, 5’10 running back for the New Orleans Saints. Kamara first played college football at University of Alabama in 2013. He had preseason knee surgery and was redshirted as a true freshman after failing to break into a recruiting class. Later that year, Alabama head coach, Nick Saban, barred Kamara from team practices and their bowl game because of Kamara’s “behavioral issues.”

In 2014, after his season with Alabama ended, Kamara transferred to Hutchinson Community College. Kamara’s season with the Blue Dragon’s excelled. Kamara rushed for 1,211 yards, averaging 134.6 yards per game. He also scored 18 touchdowns in 9 games. Kamara’s stellar season led him to be a top Junior College prospect.

In 2015, after Kamara’s season with the Blue Dragon’s, he transferred to University of Tennessee to play for Coach Butch Jones. Kamara started in all 13 games alongside Jalen Hurd and John Kelly. In Tennessee’s debut game against Bowling Green, Kamara rushed for 144 yards and scored two touchdowns.

Throughout Kamara’s season with the New Orlean Saints, he posted 1,337 yards from scrimmage and nine total touchdowns for 2021. Kamara has been to the Pro Bowl for each of his five seasons in the NFL.

It is undeniable that Kamara is one talented athlete, having 4,238 rushed yards since he was drafted into the NFL in 2017. Can his behavior be as good as his game?

The night before the 2022 NFL Pro Bowl, a man was checked into Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas, the police received a report involving battery resulting in substantial bodily harm. The report told police that around 6:30 A.M, Kamara was seen leaving Drai’s After Hours, where he was seen getting into an elevator with a large group of people.

LVMPD contacted the NFL on the morning of the Pro Bowl, knowing that Kamara would be there. Due to the fact that he was already on the field playing, they advised him to meet with the detectives after the game concluded.

When the police arrived and talked to Kamara after the game, he was straight forward and told them that a guy was calling one of Kamara’s friends ugly, so he responded with, “I will whoop your a** too.” Kamara also told the authorities that he threw a couple of punches at the man, but could not remember if he punched him while he was already on the ground.

The victim was identified as Darnell Greene, who was waiting outside of an elevator in a big group alongside Kamara. Greene claims that as the elevator doors opened, he attempted to move inside with the rest of the group. Kamara then put his hand on Greene’s chest, preventing him from entering the elevator. Greene pushed Kamara’s hand off of his chest, which resulted in him being shoved. Greene then said he was kicked and punched in the face multiple times before losing consciousness.

Police have obtained a surveillance camera video, showing proof of Greene’s reports. The video shows Greene getting beat up by four men, Kamara being included. The video also showed Greene not assaulting Kamara or any of his friends in any way. This resulted in Greene now suffering an orbital bone fracture, which may require surgery.

After interviewing Kamara at 3:30 P.M, police took him into custody. Kamara was being held at Clark County Detention Center with a $5,000 bond. His initial hearing is scheduled for March 8. There will be more to come as the case moves forward.
